Valet or dressing boxes were a popular gentleman's accessory in Victorian England. Customized to the owner's preferences, they were functional but also served to illustrate the wealth and taste of the owner.

My contemporary adaptations of the style are meant to complement the tastes of today's owner, while maintaining the functionality found in original examples. I can work with you to design a piece that looks good in your home and holds your effects with style.

This example, in air-dried black walnut, was a commission piece. The client gave me a monogram, and we worked together to come up with a design that featured it. I hand cut the monogram in mixed brass and burl walnut marquetry, and inlaid it into the lid. I divided the interior to the owner's specification to hold eyeglasses in the top and watches in the bottom.

Befitting the construction and decoration of the box, I selected hinges of the highest available quality and CNC cut a template to accurately mortise them into the sloped edge of the box.
